BJP ally IPFT seeks NRC for whole nation

There have been demand from other parties as well for an NRC in Tripura, which shares its border with Bangladesh.

GUWAHATI: The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), which is an ally of the BJP-led government in Tripura, has asked for a National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the entire country.

The demand, raised by IPFT chief NC Debbarma, comes after the publication of the updated NRC in Assam to identify foreigners staying illegally in the state.

“The foreigners’ problem is a national issue and has to be dealt with at the national level with a holistic approach,” Debbarma told ET over the phone from Agartala. There have been demand from other parties as well for an NRC in Tripura, which shares its border with Bangladesh.
