BJP against house tax in urban areas of Punjab

Punjab Local Bodies Minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia oppose SAD-BJP govt's decision to impose house tax.

JALANDHAR: Punjab Local Bodies Minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia have opposed the SAD-BJP coalition government's decision to impose house tax in the urban areas of the state.

"BJP is determined to protect the interests of urban residents. We are opposed to the imposition of house tax to recover the expenditure being spent on free power to agriculture sector", Kalia said on Sunday.

For the development of Mohali and other peripheral areas of the state adjoining the Union Territory of Chandigarh, a Singapore based company, Jurong International Limited, has been asked to prepare a Master Plan within one year, he said.

For other cities, the Housing Development Corporation has been asked to chalk out a comprehensive Master Plan, Kalia added.

The Punjab government has approached the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to finalise a comprehensive industrial policy for the state, Kalia, who also holds the portfolio of industry, said.
