BJP accuses TMC government of plotting to defer municipal polls

KOLKATA: BJP today accused the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of plotting to defer the municipal polls alleging that it was afraid of the rise of the saffron party.

"The state government is trying to defer the polls in 17 municipalities. They think that by deferring the polls they can shrug off the Modi wave in the state which has led to BJP's rise," state BJP chief Rahul Sinha said. "The state is trying to defer it by 6-7 months. But Modiji's popularity will increase by leaps and bounds in these months," he said.

Sinha said that on May 22 the BJP leadership would meet West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan and submit a memorandum on the just concluded elections. Meanwhile, according to State Election Commissioner Mira Pande, the SEC wrote two letters to the state government about holding the municipal polls but it is yet to respond.
