NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP today accused Aam Admi Party (AAP) government of trying to "suppress" its MLAs in Delhi Assembly adding that the party will take "strict" action against party MLA OP Sharma if he was found "guilty" of saying anything derogatory against ruling party's woman legislator.

"We strongly oppose the attempts of AAP government to suppress BJP MLAs with its majority in the Assembly," said Delhi BJP president Satish Updhayay.

"I called OP Sharma after turmoil in the Assembly yesterday and sought his explanation. I think there is nothing wrong in the context in which he used the so-called derogatory words. Rather it was AAP MLAs including Alka Lamaba who abused him," Upadhayay said.

"Whatever happened in Delhi Assembly is in public domain for everyone to see. Still, I am in a position to take strict action against Sharma if he is found guilty, although I believe he has done nothing wrong," the Delhi BJP chief said.

Saying that the party fully backed Sharma, Upadhyay added "the incident was an attempt of AAP government to divert public attention from a host of recent developments and issues including Kejriwal's "hand holding" with Lalu Prasad, charges of corruption and violence against its MLAs and the Bills to be tabled in the Assembly.

Sharma was yesterday suspended from the ongoing session of Delhi Assembly, till Thursday, by the Speaker Ram Niwas Goel for his "derogatory" words against AAP MLA Alka Lamba.

Sharma claimed that he did not say anything derogatory against Lamba who rather "tried twice" to "slap" him and accused him of being a drug "peddler".

"I have all the respect for women as mothers, sisters and daughters. I don't need lessons of respecting women from anyone, he added.
