The Bureau of Indian Standards has raided five companies using fake ISI marks in supply of packaged drinking water and seized packaged water bottles and pet jars.

CHENNAI: The Bureau of Indian Standards has raided five companies using fake ISI marks in supply of packaged drinking water and seized packaged water bottles and pet jars.

BIS officials undertook a search operation in the five drinking water suppliers recently and seized packaged drinking water pet jars and pet bottles for misuse of ISI mark, an official release said.

The five companies are -- G M Industries suppliers of drinking water under brand "Aruvi", Lavanya Pure Water Industries retailing drinking water under brand "AtchayaPura", RMF Mineral Water Factory sellers of "Aqua Thanish" water, Phenix Food Products owners of drinking water brand "Mr Knight" and Sri Krishna Aqua Products retailers of "Sri Krishna Aqua" water, it said.

BIS Southern Regional Office would take action against the five companies under the Section 33 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act 1986, the release said.

The offence is punishable with imprisonment upto one year or a fine upto Rs 50,000 or both, it added.
