KOLKATA: Chicken prices have dropped more than 10% in the last four to five days amid reports of bird flu in some states, reports ET.

People in the poultry business, however, said the organised industry had not seen any cases of bird flu. They hoped that these reports would not impact sales and prices like the rumours in the initial months of the Covid-19 outbreak, when the spread of the coronavirus was linked to eating of chicken.

“So far, the organised poultry industry has not reported a single mortality due to bird flu. The report has been about deaths of crows and migratory birds,” Ranjith Reddy, president of the Telangana Poultry Association, told ET.
