Former Cricket Board president Inderjit Singh Bindra was made chairman of the Grounds and Infrastructure Committee of the BCCI-promoted Indian Premier League on Thursday.

MUMBAI: Former Cricket Board president Inderjit Singh Bindra was made chairman of the Grounds and Infrastructure Committee of the BCCI-promoted Indian Premier League on Thursday.

Bindra, who is the also president of Punjab Cricket Association, will inspect the venues of the matches in the 44-day IPL commencing on April 18 and submit reports to the Governing Council, IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi said here after a meeting with the match-staging associations.

Modi said the stadia hosting the matches would undergo massive upgradation to improve public amenities.

"We met the associations' representatives and told them the infrastructure needs in the stadia and what help they can expect from us. There will be massive upgradation in all the staging venues in terms of facilties such as public toilets and seating arrangements," he told reporters here.

"We will be spending crores of rupees in this regard and will also be placing the franchisees' needs before the staging associations.

"The IPL Governing Council has already submitted its blueprint to the associations for immediate work to be carried out at the venues," he said.

"There will be a meeting with the franchisees as well as the staging associations tomorrow to discuss the facilities and other items like the guidlines, marketing plans, campaigns and the sponsors.

"The staging associations have agreed to work with the franchisees immediately," Modi added.
