Bihar: Maheshwar Hazari, JD(U) leader and former minister, resigns as deputy speaker

There has so far been no confirmation on why Maheshwar Hazari, a two-term MLA from Kalyanpur as well as a former minister in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet, made the decision to resign.

Maheshwar Hazari resignation: In a sudden political development, JD(U) leader Maheshwar Hazari has quit the post of deputy speaker of the Bihar assembly. Hazari had been holding the deputy speaker's post since March 2021.

The announcement was made by the Vidhan Sabha secretariat on February 21, news agency PTI said in a report.

The JD(U) politician's resignation came into effect from the forenoon of February 21, a notification issued by the state secretariat said.


Hazari is a second-term MLA from the reserved Kalyanpur assembly constituency. He was also formerly a minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet.

Reports said that it was not immediately known why the senior leader resigned from the post.
