Bihar farmers to get subsidy of Rs 15 a litre on diesel
Bihar govt has come to the rescue of farmers facing potential threat of crop damage in other areas due to scanty rains by giving a subsidy of Rs 15 per litre on diesel.

PATNA: While waging a grim battle against floods in some parts of the state, the Bihar government has come to the rescue of farmers facing potential threat of crop damage in other areas due to scanty rains by giving a subsidy of Rs 15 per litre on diesel.
The subsidy will be available to all farmers including those in flood-affected districts with a rider that their fields have not been inundated in massive destruction caused in state's 17 districts, Principal Cabinet Secretary Girish Shanker said.
The state cabinet approved an amount of Rs 63.16 crore at a meeting last night.
The subsidy will be available for one round of irrigation without any acreage bar especially to save the kharif crop wilting due to deficiency in the rainfall, the official said.
The calculation has been done on the presumption that 10 litres of diesel will be required to irrigate one acre of land which means the state government will lose around Rs 150 per acre, Shanker said.
Farmers willing to claim the benefit will have to submit applications alongwith purchase receipts to gram panchayats which would approve after obtaining clearance from the gram sabha.
Complaints will be probed by a block development officer who will refer the matter back to the gram sabha for final disposal.
The government had granted a subsidy of Rs 10 per litre to farmers in rain deficit districts last year, but raised it to Rs 15 per litre keeping in mind the escalation in retail prices of diesel, a key input for irrigation.
