Bihar economy growing under Nitish Kumar: Deputy CM SK Modi

PATNA: The economy of Bihar grew at an annual rate of 11.36 per cent from 2004-05 to 2010-11 showing a revival of a stagnant economy of the state, Deputy Chief Minister S K Modi said today.

The growth rate of the state economy in 2010-11 was 14.8 per cent comparing to that in 2009-10, Modi, who holds the finance portfolio, told reporters after tabling the economic survey for 2011-12 in the state assembly.

"This was possible owing to substantial increase in public investment," he said.

Modi said the average productivity during 2007-10 of three important cereals was 1353 kg per hectare for rice, 2208 kg per hectare for wheat and 2629 kg per hectare for maize.

In the last kharif season, a farmer in Nalanda district created a world record by achieving a productivity level of 22.4 tonne per hectare for rice, he said.
