PATNA: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today criticised the Centre for its coal block allocation policy and said private companies with such blocks were selling electricity at higher rates to state governments.

"It was expected that the private power players with allocated coal blocks would sell electricity to the state governments at an appropriate rate, but in reality the situation is different," Modi told reporters here.

State governments were the major power consumers of such companies, but the companies were selling electricity to states at much higher rates, he said.

The central policy of coal block allocation was responsibile for the situation, he said.
