Bodh Gaya: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday announced that the state government will constitute 100 fast-track courts for the speedy disposal of criminal cases.

Choudhary made the announcement while inaugurating a two-day state-level conference on the implementation of the three new criminal laws -- the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The conference was organised at the Mahabodhi Cultural Centre in Bodh Gaya by the Bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (BIPARD) and the Bihar Judicial Academy.

"Bihar has always been identified with the principle of 'development with justice'. The effective and people-oriented implementation of the new criminal laws will further strengthen this spirit," Choudhary said, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

"One hundred fast-track courts will be constituted for the speedy disposal of crime-related cases, helping maintain the rule of law in the state," he added.

Referring to the government's grievance redressal initiative, he said state-level Sahyog camps are currently held on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, and announced that an additional state-level camp would be organised in Patna on the second Tuesday of every month.

Stressing the need for greater coordination among stakeholders, Choudhary said public confidence in the justice delivery system could be strengthened only through close cooperation between the judiciary, police and the executive.

"Justice becomes meaningful only when the general public's faith in the justice system grows stronger. For this, better coordination among the judiciary, police and executive is essential. Regular coordination meetings should be held between the government and the judiciary so that investigation, prosecution and the judicial process can be made more effective," he said.

The CM said the three new criminal laws should be implemented with a citizen-centric approach and called for greater use of technology and artificial intelligence in the justice delivery system.

He said police stations across the state are being equipped with CCTV cameras, digital equipment and scientific investigation tools, while forensic laboratories, mobile forensic vans and scientific evidence collection systems have also been strengthened to ensure faster investigation and disposal of cases.

Choudhary also said that under the state's 112 emergency response service, police currently reach crime scenes in an average of 10 minutes, and the government aims to reduce the response time to seven to eight minutes.
