The protest was joined by all the BJP senior leaders, MPs, MLAs and party workers. As the leaders were marching towards the assembly, the police tried to stop them and resorted to a lathi charge. BJP leaders alleged that their Jehanabad district general secretary, Vijay Singh, succumbed to injuries suffered in the lathi charge. The local administration however denied it and said that Singh was found unconscious by the roadside with no visible injury mark.
"The lathis that took the life of BJP Jehanabad district general secretary Vijay Kumar Singh is the culmination of the undemocratic character and shamelessness of the Bihar government...," Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted.
Bihar BJP president Samrat Choudhary announced the BJP will observe Black Day on Friday. "The police atrocity will prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the Grand Alliance government. The people of Bihar will take revenge from the autocratic government of Nitish," Choudhary told ET.
