NEW DELHI: Bihar government’s decision to approach Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to controversial RJD leader and convict Shahabuddin by Patna high court apparently aims at helping Chief Minister Nitish Kumar save his public image as “Sushasan Babu” (good administration).

Nitish government was continuously targeted by the state’s main opposition BJP following the release of Shahabuddin, who was described by the opposition parties as a terror in Siwan during Lalu-Rabri regime in the state, from the Bhagalpur jail on September 10.

“The decision to file a petition for cancellation of bail granted to Sahabuddin by the court clearly showed that there is rule of law in Bihar. There is no political consideration in such matters,” JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar told ET on phone from Patna.

He reiterated that the grand alliance comprising JD (U), RJD and Congress was voted to power in the name of ensuring good governance in the state.
