New Delhi: Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with AICC in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday.

The meeting came amid hectic efforts to put the state Congress unit in unity mode through a reshuffle ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. The very fact that Hooda formally met Gandhi for the first time since his Rohtak rally, is being described by the AICC sources as the clear signal of both sides rebuilding the political bridges ahead of the imminent rejig of the state Congress leadership team.

CHACKO WANTS TO BE BENCHED

In another development, AICC in-charge of the poll-bound Delhi P C Chacko on Thursday said he has requested Sonia Gandhi to relieve him of the assignment since he has been holding the post “for more than four years now”. However, some local Congress leaders pointed out that his move also coincided with internal rumblings in DPCC against him and that the episode of him sending some “harsh letters” on organisational matters to then seriously ill PCC chief Shiela Dikshit just days before she died had also turned many of her supporters against him.
