Bhujbal urges corporates to be more active on social front

"There are so many corporates who can take up the tasks and do something for the society," Bhujbal said here, while launching telecom major Nokia's 'color campaign'.

MUMBAI: Corporates should play a more active role in engaging with the society and invest in initiatives for community development, Maharashtra minister for public works and tourism Chhagan Bhujbal said today.

"There are so many corporates who can take up the tasks and do something for the society," Bhujbal said here, while launching telecom major Nokia's 'color campaign'.

Under the campaign, aimed to raise awareness about pedestrian safety, the Finnish handset maker will paint zebra crossings at 12 locations in bright colours.

"Corporates can do so much. A company like Nokia can play a message on 'Don't drink and drive' or 'Drive safely'. There is so much that can be done," Bhujbal said.

Noting that about 12,000 people are killed in road accidents in the state every year, he said "initiatives like the one being launched by Nokia can help in raising awareness about road safety and the need to drive responsibly."

Nokia intends to expand the initiatives to Delhi and Bangalore.

"Consumers love colours and we hope these beautifully coloured zebra crossings will encourage them to respect pedestrian safety," Nokia India managing director P Balaji said.
