Bhopal GOM may not hike relief

The GoM is unlikely to hike compensation to the victims.

NEW DELHI: The group of ministers ( GoM) dealing with the fallout of the Bhopal gas tragedy is unlikely to take any decision to hike compensation to the victims or to devise any new strategy for the extradition of Warren Anderson, reports Our Bureau from New Delhi.

Briefing points circulated by the department of chemicals, which will be used as inputs by the GoM, make no reference to these. Instead, the GoM is likely to recommend the setting up of a specially empowered commission for rehabilitation of victims, subsuming committees set up by the courts and the central and the Madhya Pradesh governments. But even this could be difficult, because the state government has opposed the move.
