BHEL gives Rs 2 crore, employees one-day salary for flood victims

NEW DELHI: State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals has contributed Rs 2 crore besides giving one-day salary of its employees to help victims in the flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand.

The power equipment major said it has also provided supplies including food, milk, water and medicines to the affected areas, from its plants located at Haridwar.

"An amount of Rs 2 crore has been contributed by BHEL to the Chief Minster's Relief Fund of Uttarakahand. In addition, BHEL employees have contributed one-day's salary for the cause," it said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, transmission utility Power Grid has today said it has donated Rs 2.5 crore towards relief efforts in Uttarakhand. The company's employees has also given their one day salary for the same.

Leading power producer NTPC has contributed Rs 3 crore to help victims of ravaging flood in Uttarakhand.

Thousands of people have been affected by the floods and the death toll is likely to cross 1,000.
