A senior official of the public sector BHEL and his wife allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in their car parked near their residence on Monday.

BANGALORE: A senior official of the public sector BHEL and his wife allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in their car parked near their residence on Monday.

Deputy General Manager of the BHEL, Veerendra Kumar (55) and his wife Usha (50) were found dead in their car by a policemen during patrol duty early this morning, they said.

Police suspect Kumar had run into a financial crisis and was not in a position to repay his debt running to the tune of around Rs 50 lakh. Kumar also faced some cheque bouncing cases, police said.

One of the daughters of the deceased has settled down abroad, while another was residing in the city and employed in a firm, they added.
