“Provide jobs to those who are still around their work places and this can be done by allowing export units, construction sites and small and medium enterprises to open up and function,” BMS said in its submission.
According to BMS, those migrant workers who have reached home may be allowed to get instant employment under MGNEREGA by allowing activities like road building and repairs, government/community building repairs, cleaning water ponds/lakes, cleaning canals and converting waste into manure meant for agriculture. “This way employment for a fortnight or a month, around their residences could be generated,”it said.
Further, the nearby semi urban stations could be tapped for starting construction activities and besides allowing tiny and rural industries to kick-start operations,”it suggested.
“Meanwhile, transportation facilities can be arranged for interested migrant workers who are willing to join back work,” it said, adding this would help the economy and employment to slowly come back to normalcy.
