Bhardwaj's remarks confirm Congress's undemocratic, dictatorial nature: BJP

NEW DELHI: BJP today latched onto former Law Minister H R Bhardwaj's claim that he was under "pressure" to get a favourable Supreme Court verdict over imposition of the President's Rule in Bihar, saying it only confirms the public opinion of Congress being an "undemocratic and dictatorial" party.

Congress should introspect over such critical comments coming from its own leader, BJP said.

At an event yesterday Bhardwaj had said that he was under "tremendous pressure" the then UPA government to ensure a favourable order from the Supreme Court on its decision to impose President's Rule in Bihar in 2005 to prevent the JD(U)-BJP combine from coming to power.

"It only confirms the public view of Congress that it is an undemocratic and dictatorial party," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.

Making a reference to recent articles panning Congress leaders Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira and Sonia Gandhi that had appeared in a party journal in Mumbai and on the website of the Bihar government, in which it is a partner, he said people and entities related to the opposition party were giving "evidence" of the charges against it.

"The facts which Congress always denied are coming out. It is time for the party to introspect so that it could play a constructive role as an opposition party and help the Modi government in its developmental agenda. It will help the country," Sharma said, referring to its repeated disruption of Parliament.
