Congress party also announced that the Assam leg of Bharat Jodo will start in November this year where Congress leaders will transverse between Sadiya to Dhubri covering a distance of 800km.
'Bharat Jodo Yatra' as part of which Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders will travel across 3,500 km, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who was in Guwahati on Friday said, “The Bharat Jodo Yatra has nothing to do with state elections of Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka or the Lok Sabha election of 2024. This yatra is tapasya (penance) of Rahul Gandhi.”
Asserting that this yatra covered 163km, Ramesh said that it will infuse a new lease of life in Congress party, rejuvenate the party organisation. “India is being divided. There is glaring economic inequity with food items being taxed under GST, middle class is under pressure and there is growing unemployment. There is social polarisation and divisive ideology that encourages political centralization.”
He added, “Constitutional bodies are misused and weakened and attempts are made to weaken states. Depending upon the outcome of ongoing Yatra, Congress party may take up another yatra from western India to Northeast India. We may take up a journey from Porbandar in Gujarat to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh in 2023.”
He added leaders from Assam will join the ongoing journey in Rajasthan. “These leaders will bring the water and mud from Assam. This journey is a defining moment in Congress party’s history. Rahul is interacting with different people and groups during the journey and the feedback and suggestion of people will definitely form part of the party’s manifesto for 2024 Lok Sabha polls".
