Rajasthan: Bhajan Lal Sharma, first time MLA is going to be CM of BJP-led govt in state
The Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday appointed Sanganer MLA Bhajanlal Sharma as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan, putting an end to the lingering suspense over the leadership in the state. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa are set to be the deputy CMs.

Vasudev Devnani has been named the state assembly speaker.

"I would like to assure you that all the MLAs of Rajasthan will definitely meet the expectations that the people have with us, with the BJP. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we will ensure holistic development of Rajasthan in all areas," said the new CM designate.

At the meeting, the CM-designate's name was proposed by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who was herself considered to be in the running for the top post.

Sharma has served as the State General Secretary for the saffron party four times. Following the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election, he was elected as an MLA from the Sanganer Assembly constituency.

Earlier today, Rajnath Singh and other party observers Vinod Tawde and Saroj Pandey held a meeting in which Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Rajasthan BJP Election in-charge Pralhad Joshi was also present.

With this announcement, the BJP brass has now appointed Chief Ministers in all three states, days after it stormed to power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

BJP's thumping victory in state elections without naming a chief ministerial face gave the already powerful central leadership of the saffron party a free hand in the selection of the chief minister in Rajasthan.

The Prime Minister led the BJP's campaign front and centre in the Hindi heartland and the strategy clearly reaped rich dividends for the saffron party.

Earlier media reports had suggested BJP’s plans to give the responsibility of the Chief Minister post to a new face.

The BJP won 115 seats out of the 199 that went to polls. Polling was postponed in one constituency due to the death of a candidate.
