Mann, who was on a two-day visit to the national capital to study government-run schools and hospitals, said his government has to hit the ground running to boost the education and healthcare sectors. "Our work will begin as soon as we return to the state," he said, adding that Punjab will make a beginning by opening 117 schools and 117 mohalla clinics - one in every assembly constituency.
"We are appealing to the industry - please come and set up businesses here. Nobody will ask you for a cut in profits. This is also a call to our NRIs, who are settled in different countries. We know you are ready to give your life for Punjab. But please come and adopt a school or hospital in your village. You can turnaround education in your pind (village). Today, Punjabis are everywhere in the world. Toronto is Punjab, London is Punjab, Melbourne, Auckland - Punjab is everywhere. But now come and help your villages," he said.
Mann signed a knowledge-sharing agreement with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and said the two states will share their best experiences to help Punjab improve its healthcare and education.
