Beni Prasad Verma favours Rahul Gandhi as Congress PM candidate

NEW DELHI: Union minister Beni Prasad Verma today strongly favoured Rahul Gandhi as Congress' prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Our prime minister will be Rahul Gandhi... no other leader but Rahul Gandhi," he told reporters outside Parliament when his attention was drawn to media reports about Nandan Nilekani being made the party's PM candidate.

Congress had also yesterday rejected as "hypothetical" talk of Nilekani being made the party's PM candidate.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi's remarks on the party's prime ministerial candidate had generated speculation on Sunday on whether Rahul would be named for the top job.

In September, reports had claimed that Nilekani would join the Congress party and contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Bangalore South in Karnataka, his home state.
