BENGALURU: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Bengaluru on April 2, on a three-day visit in connection with the BJP national executive meeting, several roads in the city are poised for a facelift. The trafficweary road-users of the city can, however, expect things to get worse on those days. The police have already shared a long list of roads the PM is ex pected to use during his stay with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Civic body officials have begun working on improving the condie tion of roads which the PM is expected to take.

The BBMP , however, is not going to asphalt the roads, but limit itself to e carrying out repair, and properly plug all potholes. “We will be filling up all potholes, , clear footpaths, remove debris cole lected on the roadside,“ said KT Nagaraj, Superintending Engineer, Road Infra-structure, BBMP . “There is no separate budget provided for this. All these are part of our roug tine work,“ he added.e The roads that are going to benefit include Raj Bhavan road, Ramana Maharshi Road, T Chowdiah Road, Ali Askar Road, Queens Road, Infantry Road, Kasturba Road, Queens Road, KH Road, Richmond Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Dr Mari Gowda Road, Krumbigal Road, LH Road and Vani Vilas Road.

The BBMP is ruled by the BJP , and Mayor N Shantha Kumari and Deputy Mayor K Ranganna belong to it. “In Bengaluru, it usually rains after Ugadi (the Kannada New Year which fell on March 21), and it may have damaged some roads. Our officials have already taken up inspection of the roads the PM will be taking. I will also visit some roads. We have also sanctioned asphalting of many roads, and wherever re quired, we will take up the asphalting work early on,“ the mayor said.

The PM will be staying on Thursday and Friday at the Raj Bhavan, and will attend the party office-bearers' and national executive meetings on all three days at Hotel Lalit Ashok on Kumara Krupa road.

“We are going to finalise the roads where we will have restrictions on Tuesday ,“ said Dayanand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru City .

The police, he said, will suggest alternative roads people could use on the days of the VVIPs' movement to minimise any inconvenience to road users.
