BENGALURU: BBMP has invited objections, if any, from people before cutting down 112 trees of different species on Palace compound which are coming in the way of widening Jayamahal Road from Mehkri circle to Cantonment railway station.

“We have earlier identified about 300 trees to cut down. After revising the design, we decided to bring the number of trees to be felled to 112. Some trees will be saved as they come on the median while is also a proposal to save a few trees through translocation,“ a BBMP official said.

On Tuesday, the BBMP issued a public notice inviting objections from people. “On spot inspection, it was found that removal of these trees is very much necessary for taking up the work of widening the Jayamahal road. As the number of trees to be removed is more than 20, a public notification is being issued inviting objections as per Karnataka Preservation of Tree Act 1976,“ the notice stated.

Citizens can raise objections along with valid reason and supporting documents either through e-mail or through phone to cfsubdivision1bbmp@gmail.com or 9480685381 within a period of ten days from February 7.
