Bengaluru: City school teacher rapes 14-year-old

BENGALURU: A Class 9 girl was allegedly raped several times in the past six months by a physical education teacher in her school in North Bengaluru, the police said Wednesday .
Lakshmikanth, 40, the accused teacher, is absconding.

The incidents came to light when the school management approached the Jalahalli police on Tuesday night.

A first information report was immediately registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences ( POCSO) Act. Sexual assaults on the 14-year-old girl began at the start of the academic year around June, the police believe. “He took the girl home on numerous occasions under different pretexts and sexually abused her,“ a senior police officer said.

The school found out about the girl's ordeal only when her classmates informed a teacher recently . The school summoned Lakshmikanth and initiated disciplinary action against him. “He seems to have left the school and is absconding,“ the police said.
