Bengali novelist Mani Sankar Mukherjee to get honorary DLitt

KOLKATA: Eminent Bengali author Mani Sankar Mukherjee, who penned ' Chowringhee' and other popular novels, will be awarded an honarary doctorate of letters by the University of North Bengal at Siliguri.

The 82-year-old's best known novel 'Chowringhee' continues to attract readers even after more than 50 years of its publication.

Two of his novels, ' Seemabaddha' (Company Limited) and ' Jana Aranya' (The Middleman), were turned into films by none other than Satyajit Ray.

The university will award him D.Litt(honoris causa) at its 46th Convocation to be held at Siliguri on February 18 presided by Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi who is also Chancellor, officials said today.
