BJP's West Bengal co-incharge Amit Malviya has called Bengal "the rape capital of India", citing several cases of rape in the last 48 hours. "Our daughters are not safe. In just 48 hours: 14-year-old raped for days in Sandeshkhali. 10-year-old raped in Bankura while buying chocolates. Young woman raped at night in Kalyani. 8-year-old raped in Malda," Malviya posted on X. "This is not governance. This is hell under Mamata Banerjee's rule. Only BJP can bring justice. Only the BJP can protect Bengal's daughters. Time to democratically throw out TMC," Malviya claimed.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra, who was issued a show cause by his party leadership over his remarks on the law college rape incident has apologised for his comments in his reply to the notice.
