Bengal government denies reports of farmer suicides

KOLKATA: West Bengal Agriculture Marketing Minister Arup Roy today denied any reports of suicide by potato farmers in the state.

Replying to a question in the state assembly, Roy said that according to reports received from the district authorities no farmer has committed suicide.

Last month, opposition Left Front and Congress had staged separate walkouts in the assembly after they were not allowed to discuss the issue of alleged suicides by farmers.
