'Bengal firm on industrialization'

Buddhadeb made it clear that his govt was "not dumping" industrial policy..

NEW DELHI: West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee made it clear on Monday that his government was not dumping its industrial policy and was, in fact, moving ahead with it. Even the controversial Singur land is being re-developed for industry, he said.

Without industry where will jobs come from? Bhattacharjee asked, but went on to say that our policy is that industry and agriculture should both flourish.

How can I drop my own industrial policy? the CM asked while replying to reporters on whether his government had dumped it after the Singur episode. We are trying to evolve a consensus, he said.

Naming a few projects that are in the pipeline, Bhattacharjee said, Videocon is coming up in north Bengal... (Venugopal) Dhoot is coming to meet me. Jindal power plant (in Bankura) is also happening... it is a part of their steel project.
