Bengal CPM District Secretary Goutam Deb may lose post
KOLKATA: The two-day Bengal CPM plenum from September 30 is likely to remove pro-alliance party leader Goutam Deb from the post of North 24-Parganas district secretary.

It is Deb, who had advocated strongly for electoral adjustment with the Congress for this year’s Assembly polls in Bengal, at a time when the party did not take up the issue even for discussion within the organisation. CPM insiders said Deb is at present holding three key positions in the party. He is a central committee member, a member of the state secretariat and also secretary of the party's North 24-Parganas district committee. Deb himself is not very keen to hold the post of party's district secretary as his health is not very sound. Party insiders said Deb had told several meetings of the North 24-Parganas district secretariat to release him from the post of district secretary. The party may appoint Nepaldeb Bhattacharjee as the new secretary of the district after removing Deb.
