Bengal Congress sore as Abhishek Manu Singhvi defends Mamata govt in Supreme Court
The matter pertained to a case registered by the BJP over the issue of violence during the submission of nomination papers for the upcoming panchayat polls in the TMC-ruled state.

Singhvi accepted the case even as the Congress unit in the state had filed a similar petition in the Calcutta High Court. “It is sad and unfortunate to know that one of our senior leaders is defending the Trinamool Congress government in a similar case. Such instances severely damage the morale of our workers,” West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Adhir Choudhury told ET.
“I had filed a petition in the high court to uphold democracy in Bengal. Our workers are being brutally beaten by the ruling party members and they are not even allowed to file nominations for the panchayat elections… We have written several letters to the leadership apprising it of the situation at the ground level. But it continues.
The sad part is that senior colleagues in my party and in Delhi are fighting against us,” he said.
