Bengal congress launches movement against Mamata government's plea to arrest Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury
West Bengal Congress will hold a rally at Hazra Road which is very close to the chief minister Mamata Banerjee's residence on Thursday (October 3) to condemn the state government's move to arrest their leader and Union minister of state for railways, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress activist.

Very recently, the Murshidabad district police has issued arrest warrant against Chowdhury and also filed a chargesheet against him in connection with the killing of a Trinamool Congress activist Kamaruzzaman Khan. The murder took place about two years back and the arrest warrant and chargesheet against Chowdhury along with other Congress workers were filed very recently.

State Congress president Pradip Bhattacharjee told ET on Wednesday that "Mamata's government is hatching conspiracy against our leaders and workers and her police is playing a partial role and functioning on the basis of her instruction without caring for the law.""

"The murder of the Trinamool worker had taken place about two years back and now the Murshidabad district police has issued arrest warrant against Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in order to satisfy the chief minister who is using the police to mum the opposition's voice. We had filed a petition against Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal who had issued direct threats to the police while addressing a rally during the last panchayat elections.

The State Election Commission had also asked the Birbhum district magistrate to initiate action against Mandal on the basis of our complaint against him. But the Birbhum district police did not dare to arrest the Trinamool leader. But the police in Murshidabad is making frantic effort to arrest our leader. This clearly suggests that the police is partial in West Bengal and has been following chief minister's instructions,"" Bhattacharjee pointed out.

The state Congress chief also said that they will hold a rally at Hazra Road near the chief minister's residence on Thursday to highlight the fact that the police in West Bengal is not neutral and playing a partial role and helping the chief minister to satisfy her ego.

Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, however, refuted Bhattacharjee's allegation and said that ""in many cases, the police had arrested our leaders too and law will take it's own course. The police is absolutely impartial in our state and following the law of the country in discharging their duties."
