The Centre is trying to deprive the people of Bengal by not disbursing funds for Bengal. However, Banerjee said that she will fight it out and has called for a movement on October 2, demanding funds. “I have met the Prime Minister four-five times and asked for the money. Team of MPs also visited the ministers,” Banerjee said. “We will not stop working for 100 days work. We have been waiting for the funds for the last two years.”
Banerjee said that the West Bengal government's 'Kanyashree' scheme” will one day be celebrated as 'Kanyasree Divas' across the globe as International Girl Child Day.
"I believe that one day, Kanyashree Divas will be celebrated as the International Girl Child's Day in the future," she said. The Bengal government had received the United Nations Public Services Award (UNPSA) in 2017 for the scheme, putting behind several other countries across the globe.
“Kanyasree scheme's tenth anniversary was celebrated today. "I was so proud to win UNPSA award. I prepared the logo and the theme song for the Kanyashree scheme was written by me," Banerjee said.
"The project was taken up in 2013 when I was the Finance Secretary. Ten years have been completed. In the coming days, more women and girl-children will be benefitted through this scheme. Kanyashree is about empowerment of women, it is not only a scheme,” State Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi said.
Taking to twitter, formerly Twitter.com, the West Bengal chief minister said "I am delighted to commemorate Kanyashree Divas, a day that exemplifies our steadfast commitment to empowering girl students. Over the past 10 years, Kanyasree has transformed the lives of more than 81 lakh young women by providing education and financial support, regardless of caste, class, and religion.
