Bengal CEO to review low pace of enumeration form distribution

After the EF distribution started on November 4, around 89.67% EFs have been distributed by the booth-level officers (BLOs) as part of their house-to-house visits. Around 6.87 crore EFs have been distributed till 4pm on Wednesday.
The Election Commission has identified around 40 assembly constituencies where less than 75% EFs have been distributed. Jadavpur, Baruipur Purba, Baruipur Paschim, Sonarpur Dakshin, Kasba, Tollygunge, Behala Purba, Behala Paschim, Maheshtala and Kolkata Port are some of the areas identified, people in the know said.
The EC has also directed the Aadhaar authorities to provide information related to dead voters to CEOs of all the states as per Section 9 of the Registration of Electoral Rules, 1960.
At least 34 lakh Aadhaar cards have been deactivated in Bengal due to the deaths of the voters, the Bengal-CEO said.
The Election Commission will send this information to the EROs. According to the Commission sources, if the enumeration form of a dead voter is filled, a hearing will be held after verification. The Election Commission will also collect information from banks, life insurance authorities, government and government-sponsored organisations where the Aadhaar of the deceased persons is linked. It will also collect data till 2022 from the Registrar General about births and deaths related registrations.
