Bengal BJP condemns Trinamool Congress for charging Rs 50,000 to give party membership
KOLKATA: Bengal BJP on Friday came down heavily on the ruling Trinamool Congress for it's decision to accept hefty money for giving party membership to those who are interested to become ruling party members.

BJP state president Rahul Sinha said on Friday that "Trinamool Congress has decided to give party memberships by taking Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 from individuals. There are several type of memberships in the Trinamool Congress and those who are financially well-off and capable of paying money ranging between Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 would be able to become members of the ruling party. Now I have no hesitation to say that Trinamool Congress is making false claims that they are a party of the poor. I am sure that no political party in India will claim such hefty amount of money to offer it's membership to the individuals."

Sinha also doubts whether Trinamool is trying to convert the black money into white by accepting membership money from individuals. "It is alleged that many important Trinamool Congress leaders have taken huge money from the tainted Saradha chit fund owner Sudipta Sen. May be the party is now trying to convert the Saradha's black money into white in the name of taking money from individuals who are keen to become ruling party members," Sinha observed.

Interestingly, Trinamool Congress has launched a membership drive on Thursday (January 1). It appears that the ruling party is concerned seriously following BJP's claim that their party membership in West Bengal has touched the figure of 10 lakhs.
