Protesting against the death of two students during a demonstration over the appointment of school teachers in north Dinapur, the West Bengal faction of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour Bengal bandh today.

Protests have erupted across the state with a few reports of clashes between the TMC and the BJP supporters. Incidents of buses being vandalised by protestors have surfaced from across the state.

To ensure safety of the people and to maintain normalcy, the state government has set up police control rooms across the state and 5,000 police personnel have been deployed.

Train movement was obstructed by protesters, on Howrah-Bardhman main line.

BJP MP Roopa Ganguly on Wednesday morning distributed leadflets in Kolkata informing about the death of the 2 students who died in a clash with police.

Police arrested 24 bandh supporters from Bagdogra and Naxalbari areas.

In a move to avoid to Bandh, the TMC government in the state has announced cuts in salaries of government employees if they fail to turn up for the work on the day of the bandh.

Home secretary of the state has written to the Railways to maintain normal service.

The TMC has held protests across the state opposing the Bengal bandh organised by the BJP.
