Before Mamata Banerjee's Agartala rally, Bengal CPI (M) chief Surjya Kanta Mishra to address a rally

AGARTALA: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will address a Trinamool Congress rally at Agartala on August 9. Before her visit to the CPI (M)-ruled state of Tripura, Bengal party secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra will visit the state on August 8 and address a rally at the state capital of Agartala.

"We are observing solidarity week across the country to highlight Mamata Banerjee's anti-democratic activities in Bengal. She is actually trying to eliminate her opposition parties in Bengal. Our polit bureau has decided to highlight how the Bengal chief minister is working against the opposition and trying to eliminate them. We are holding rallies in each state to apprise the people about how the ruling party in Bengal has engaged itself in killing leaders of the opposition parties.

Surjya Kanta Mishra will join a rally at Agartala on August 8 to run campaign against Mamata Banerjee," CPI (M) MLA and Left Front Legislative Party (LFLP) party leader in Bengal, Sujan Chakraborty told ET on Friday.

Mamata is going to Agartala to address a rally of her party in Tripura. Altogether six of the ten Congress MLAs in Tripura have recently left the party and joined Trinamool Congress enabling it to become the opposition party in the CPIM-ruled Tripura. Mamata has also made it clear that her party will contest 2018 Assembly elections at Tripura and pose a threat to the ruling CPI (M) there.

CPIM sources in Kolkata said that Mishra will campaign against Mamata before her visit to Agartala on August 9. "Surjya Da's meeting in Agartala is a part of our nation-wide campaign against Mamata Banerjee," said a senior Bengal CPI (M) leader.
