Before and After: NASA shows the devastation caused by floods in Kerala
The before and after images of the area surrounding the Vembanad lake, including areas in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Changanassery and Thiruvalla.

The image denoting Kerala before the recent floods caused havoc across the state, was acquired using the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite. Dated February 6, the satellite image shows a green land mass denoting vegetation, which is surrounded by water bodies. On the other hand the image showcasing the damage caused by floods across the state, shows Kerala submerged in water almost entirely.

With over 350 dead and around a million displaced, Kerala is facing the worst floods in nearly a century. As people across the state face tremendous difficulties in getting their hands on food and medicine, the state exchequer has estimated the loss to be more than Rs10,000 crore.
NASA, had last week released a video, created using satellite data to demonstrate the heavy rainfall witnessed by Kerala between August 13 - August 20.
