Beef consumption not mandatory in Islam: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal
GUWAHATI: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal said consuming beef is not mandatory in Islam and banning it would not make any difference to Indian Muslims.

Ajmal, who is a moulana and a Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, while reacting to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khathar's remark on beef, said chief ministers cannot dictate on foot habits. “Eating beef is not mandatory in Islam. Banning it won't make much difference to Indian Muslims. But can a chief minister dictate what to eat and what not to eat?

Has any constitutional authority abused the Constitution more than BJP CM Khattar?,“ Ajmal said.

Khattar remarked that Muslim community must give up beef to live in India as cow is an “article of faith“ for Hindus.Khattar, however, later denied he said anything like this.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi last week cautioned that fringe groups of BJP were trying to “import“ beef row in the state.
