BBMP's irregular garbage collection increases Bengaluru residents' travails
BENGALURU: New Thippasandra was an area for low-income households till a decade ago. As the city rose with the IT boom and Bagmane Tech Park in CV Raman Nagar welcomed the affluent population, the residents' travails also increased like never before. Like every other part of Bengaluru, garbage plays the biggest villain in New Thippasandra too.

Bharati, resident of LIC Colony, says that the BBMP collects garbage from the area only once a week, whereas it used to be every alternate day till a few months ago.

B Mosses, a resident of Jagadish Nagar, says that the irregularity in garbage collection is making the area extremely dirty , especially during the rains when the drainage system collapses, leaving a mess in almost every street. Stray dogs are increasing on the streets and there have been incidents of small children being bitten.

Saurabh Kesari, who lives in KG Colony, said that garbage is often dumped in the open space near the BEML gate and the BBMP collectors are very reluctant to pick it up.

“They pick a fight with us if we complain to the corporator or MLA,“ he said. Kesari, who has been living in the area for 22 years, told ET that the ongoing construction of apartment buildings has added to the pollution.“Many of these buildings are illegally constructed, accommodating more floors and people than is acceptable. This inevitably leads to lack of resources and takes up extra parking space,“ he added. With the affluent households having 2-3 cars when there is hardly parking space for one, both sides of the roads are used for parking, he said. Although the corporator had planted some saplings in the area, people have removed them to make way for parking.
