Bathinda refinery to create 150,000 jobs: Badal

CHANDIGARH: The Rs 18,919 crore Bhatinda refinery, in which the Union Cabinet yesterday permitted enhanced FDI, will help create 150,000 direct and indirect jobs on completion, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Friday.
"It is like a dream come true" for all Punjabis, he told the state assembly, a day after the Centre allowed steel baron L N Mittal to pick 49 per cent stake in the 9 million tons per annum refinery, in which state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corp owns an identical stake.
Mittal would initially invest Rs 3,365 crore in this project, Badal said, adding that this would be the largest infusion of FDI in a state-run refinery project.
Once it is completed, over 150,000 Punjabis would get direct and indirect employment, he said in a statement during the on-going budget session.
