NEW DELHI: Based on intelligence inputs that the country’s premier nuclear installation, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (Barc), is on the radar of terror outfits, the Centre has alerted all agencies involved in its security to step up surveillance.

As per information with the intelligence agencies, Barc, located at Trombay in suburban Mumbai, is under a fresh threat of a terror attack, most probably from the sea. The atomic power station dots the western coastline, which is anyway on alert following inputs that outfits like LeT may try to stage yet another daring attack to commemorate the 26/11 anniversary.

Besides alerting security agencies deployed at Barc, which includes the Army and CISF, the Centre has sought tighter surveillance of the coast and the seas by the Coast Guard and Navy. Barc is one of the most-protected vital installations in the country, surrounded by a three-tier security system that ensures foolproof access control and perimeter security, besides being protected by anti-aircraft guns.
