Bandh called against organised retailing
The Federation of Traders' Organisations of West Bengal has called a state-wide trade bandh on November 30 to protest organised retailing by large corporate houses and MNCs.
A statement from the traders body today said it would carry out street corner meetings from September 18 to September 25, street plays highlighting plight of traders and consumers and finally the bandh.
The trade body has claimed that small retail shops close to malls and shopping complexes were hit in sales by extent of 30 to 40 per cent.
They have also protested offering municipal markets to the large corporate houses.
"Entry to organised retailing would lead to unemployment to lakhs of people directly and indirectly," the statement said.
