MUMBAI: After a feeble public appearance at the Shiv Senas Dussehra rally earlier this month, Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray has formally signalled his withdrawal from routine affairs of the party which he founded in 1966. In a write-up front-paged in the Sena mouthpiece Saamana, the 84-year-old Sena chief has addressed Shiv Sainiks and asked what is the point in meeting me when I have handed over the party affairs to Uddhav?

His appeal to the cadres comes soon after he virtually anointed Uddhav Thackeray as the future supremo of the Shiv Sena at the Dussehra rally. Please understand that I get tired seeing hordes of workers who call on me after their meeting with Uddhav, Sr Thackeray has said.

Whenever Uddhav needs to consult him, he does so and that they keep interacting whenever the situation demands. But it is taxing for me to meet the Sainiks... But as the age is catching up with me, I get exhausted seeing the never-ending stream of Sainiks.

He has cited Diwali as one such occasion that drained his energy. It is up to you to take care of my health, Mr Thackeray has appealed. This Dussehra, its for the first time that the Sena rally was addressed by Uddhav.

With his appeal to Sena cadres to look up to Uddhav for leadership, Mr Thackeray has virtually paved the way for a fierce clash between Uddhav and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray.
