He said that the Congress was the only party who stood by the wrestlers during the protests in December 2023. He said that the BJP IT cell had alleged that the wrestler's objective was political, but added that it was not the case. "We sent BJP a letter to stand by is, but they did not come. We sent a letter to all the women leaders of BJP but we got no support. Congress came forward without even us asking for their help," said Punia.
He said that he was only repaying the Congress as they stood with India’s daughters. "We understood that only Congress has stood by women, farmers and athletes," added Punia.
Speaking about Vinesh Phogat's disqualification in the Paris Olympics, Punia said, "The entire country was sad when Vinesh was disqualified, but there was an IT cell that was happy."
Punia said that he would fight unitedly for the Congress and raise his voice for those who are tortured, adding that he would work as hard for the party as he did while wrestling.
