GANDHINAGAR: Communal clashes broke out in Surat on Monday morning after a severed head of a cow was found near Maharana Pratap Chawk in Godadara area.

A crowd gathered on the spot and resorted to arson and stone pelting, leading to lathicharge and bursting of teargas shells by the police.

Several activists of Bajrang Dal have been taken into preventive detention, according to Surat police commissioner Satish Sharma.

It is learnt that a police inspector was also injured in the incident.
