Bag with Rs 10 Lakh found in Bhopal Express not mine: Sandeep Dikshit

The MP denied it belonged to him, and said a friend who was travelling on the same train had left it with him for safekeeping and had forgotten to retrieve it.

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit was embroiled in a controversy on Thursday when a bag with 10 lakh in cash was found under his seat in a first class coupe in Bhopal Express. The MP, son of Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, denied it belonged to him, and said a friend who was travelling on the same train had left it with him for safekeeping and had forgotten to retrieve it when they deboarded in Delhi.

"I categorically deny that the cash belonged to me. It belonged to my friend Jayesh Mathur. Jayesh and I were travelling together from Jaipur to Delhi. He was in the AI coach, I was in the a/c coach. Jayesh and I were chatting together and he mentioned he was carrying valuables.

He asked me to keep it in my compartment as it was safer. In the morning, in the hurry to get down at the Habibganj station, we misplaced it and forgot to get it. Later, when Jayesh realised, he went back and fortunately the bag was found with the railway police," Dikshit told Times Now.

He also said that Mathur, who was an architect, was carrying the cash related to a property transaction in Bhopal. It's unclear how such a large sum was being carried by a person and how could anyone forget to retrieve a bag with 10 lakh in it.
